Dancing

It was a lovely evening.

This man, this prince among men, had swept her off her feet from the time she had entered the dance hall. He was so charming and a wonderful dancer. The evening went on and on. The dancing went on and on, only stopping briefly for a glass or two of wine between dances. Had she come with someone? She couldn’t remember. How awful was that? she thought. All evening they soared and swung and glided around to the music. She was so caught up in it all that she was hardly aware of the fact that she wasn’t getting at all tired. The evening could go on and on.

After the final dance he led her back to her chair. Once seated, he bowed graciously and whispered softly into her ear, “Time to wake up, I think.”

The bedroom curtains were being drawn back, letting light into the room.

The first thing she noticed was her wheelchair…
